Thoeretica Faces the Tough Economy
Thoeretica is facing hard times...much like the economy. It is generally stagnant and not being used for anything. Its users have fled and deserted it - headed off to other worlds, to live other lives. We need you proud users of Thoeretica. We need you to come back and make the forum (and all that peripheral stuff, like files uploads and image galleries) what it once was: slightly better than mediocre. It's just such a nice and heart-felt website. Why not keep it on its last legs, instead of breaking them like some angry yakuza? Please consider posting, at least in this one topic: http://forums.thoeretica.net/index.php?showtopic=1549&st=0entry22542
That is all.

Registration Closed
Due to the number of spam bots that have been trying to register in the forums, I've decided to close new user registration. If you need to register a new account, please use my contact information on the contact page to get in touch, and I will set you up with a new account.

We're Clear For Another Year!
I renewed Thoeretica for another year! Woo! Okay, it's not really that exciting, but I'm sure I'll eventually find a use for this site. Just you wait!
- Ben [04:37 UTC on 2 August 2008]
Domain name renewed!
The registration lapsed on Thoeretica.net for a few days, so to prevent that from happening, I've paid for the next four years. According to the Maya, Thoeretica.net will be registered until the end of the world!

We're back!
After a period of downtime, we're back online. More information will come later. We still need to think of ideas for what to do with the site, but more on that at a later point.

Give to us and we'll give to you!
Starting today, Mike and I are announcing a new Thoeretica.net promotion. From now on, when you contribute and give to the Thoeretica.net community, we'll reward you for all of your hard work! We are looking for content to publish on this site, and we can't do it alone. We need your help! When you submit an original article or other significant work (including all of your home-made movies), we'll give you your own custom Thoeretica.net email address! Up until this point, only Mike and I have had @thoeretica.net accounts, making them a rare and prestigious commodity.
Now, you too can join the ranks with your own personal @thoeretica.net email address. We'll even throw in webmail access, or you can opt to use a standard email application on your own computer to check and respond to your email. Or, if those options don't float your boat, we can even redirect your @thoeretica.net address to redirect to your personal email account with another service provider. The possibilities are endless! So, act quickly and submit your content today!

New Layout!
Ben and I have just completed our new layout - MiDuK - the first layout of Thoeretica with not-weird colors. Use it or lose it, and look forward to more updates in the near future!

SCHOOL IS OVER!
School is now over for Mike and I, so expect some new content and features in the coming month. Maybe I'll finally implement the features I've had planned for a while now....you never know! Peace.

Site Downtime
Information from the site's host:
"We have received notification from the datacenter our servers are located in will be having a scheduled maintenance on April 22, 2006, that may have impact on our uptime.
Start Time (EST): April 22, 2006 at 3:00 A.M.
End Time (EST): April 22, 2006 at 7:00 A.M.
During this time the datacenter our servers are located in will be adding new routers and making changes to their topology. Furthermore, one of the datacenter's ISP will also be going under a scheduled maintenance at the same time. The datacenter's ISP will be upgrading their routers."
Meh, it's not like anybody will notice or care...

We're Back!
After a month of downtime, we're back. You know you missed us. YOU DID! Anyways, more site improvements will come in time, as soon as I get around to coding them. It'll take a little while...
While we were gone, Thoeretica.net celebrated its 1st birthday on 23 January, 2006. The day passed by pretty uneventfully, as the whole server was down. There might be a contest or something, but you never know. Something always comes up. The Thoeretica.net staff would like to thank our members for a year of support and encouragement. Here's to many more birthdays to come!

Change is Good?
It's always good to change up the content on the front page of the site, right? Well, it's that time of the year, and I'm recovering from the removal of my wisdom teeth, so this site has received some well-needed attention. After converting the entire site to a new URL scheme with mod_rewrite, I've finally managed to fix the stylesheet and login problem that many were having with the main site. You should now be able to log in and out and change your stylesheet preferences at whim. We're still looking for a solution to the file uploader fiasco, so don't expect that to work in the near future. As always, keep an eye out for more features that have been started, but that probably won't be implemented because I'm lazy. Have a Happy Holliday Season!

Server Problems
Well, our host has been having some technical difficulties recently, including a site getting hacked through some random security vulnerabilites. Oh well, that's been fixed now. However, as a result of this, many settings have had to be changed. For instance, the Uploads page pretty much doesn't work at the moment. Additionally, there are still some random errors that need to be worked out. If you see a server error with the error code 500, please let me know, preferably via AIM or in the forums, where you can PM me. As for the users that are hosted here, I already know about those errors, and they're being worked on at the moment. If you don't know what I'm talking about, this obviously doesn't apply to you. Besides these few troubles, everything else looks to be running in fine shape. It's late, it's been a long day, and I'm out of here.
- Ben [05:09 UTC on 5 July 2005]
WTF is UTC?
There are a few more changes to note at the moment. First of all, I have converted the time on this website from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Because this server does not adequately adjust for the one hour difference between Standard Time and Daylight Savings Time, it is quite a pain to update posted times to fit with the correct timezone. Furthermore, not everyone viewing the site is living on the eastern coast of the United States, so it's much more practical to have a universally accepted time code. On another note, I've upgraded the security of the login cookies, so if you are asked to login again to the main site, that's why. Finally, the comments system is coming along slowly but surely, so expect to see it within the month.
On a completely unrelated note, school is now over (along with the dreaded finals) and thus the site has been reopened to the public. There's still robotics to worry about, but at least I don't have any homework for now. Anyways, I'm not feeling too well, so I'm out of here.
- Ben [23:24 UTC on 22 June 2005]
More Minor Changes
Finally, a majority of the sitewide changes have been put in place. Most importantly, Thoeretica.net and the Advisoray Forums have now been reopened to the public after a long cool-down period. The school IP addresses will be reblocked once school begins, but until then there shouldn't be a problem. I hope to see a return in the amount of users, especially as summer draws near.
In addition to this, I've changed the default stylesheet to "Heats"; it is the one that most people enjoy, and it is the one that Mike and I have been using for serveral months. Of course, this does not mean that you can't change back to the original stylesheet, which will make the site look like it used to. Simply go to the Settings page if you are logged in to save a permanent stylesheet choice, or if you are not a member, go to Themes to change the stylesheet temporarily. To go along with the style update, I've created a favicon. I hope you enjoy it!
Now it is time for me to get back to studying; I have 2 more finals left until I'm out on summer vacation. Mike is teaching at some random technology camp, so expect only sporadic updates from him over the summer. Peace out!

Arrival of Dynamic News!
Well, the new dynamic news system is up and online, which should mean many more news updates (as the system is so easy to use. Now that this is out of the way, a comments system is being focused on for news entries and articles. Stay tuned!
As for site accessibility, most limitations should be removed within the week. Again, stay tuned for future developments.

A Needed Vacation
So much has happened over the past few months! First, we had to block the site from school, with a lot of fuss and jumping through hoops. As a result, the website is only viewable by a select few trusted individuals, but that will soon change (although it'll always be blocked from school, I think). So, what have I been doing for the past two months? Well, VHS is over with, thank goodness. However, people got the wrong ideas out of my VHS article, which led to more trouble, this time with NHS. Will it ever stop? Apparently not.
Right now, we are preparing for our school finals. Next week, Mike is leaving to go do a job at some random summer camp. I think that there will be updates, but I really don't know. Myself, I'm not doing much over the summer, so I'll probably work on the code of this site a bit more, adding features that I've wanted. I'll also be busy with multiple other websites that I'm now in charge of. Speaking of which, the Ashland Spirit is actually going to become a reality, and thoeretica.net will be its website's host...of course Mike and I will be doing the web-centered parts of it, as well as both writing and doing other stuff for the site. However, thoeretica.net (and/or vurius.org >_>) will be receiving the bulk of my attention.
As for the site, the dynamic news and comment scripts still aren't a reality, and I really need to get working on both, adding them to the homepage whenever possible. As for the gallery script, it's complete and fully operational at this point in time, so at least that's one thing out of the way. Right now, as I mentioned above, only a few IP addresses can access the site, so that's an improvement (I think...). I've done a lot of backend coding, but since none of you will ever see it (except Mike, who doesn't care XP), it doesn't matter. All I can say is that it will make the site easier to manage and quicker to load, which is always a bonus.
On a different note, I need to return to writing an English term paper that was due yesterday. I got an extension for it, but that's because my dog, Smokey, whom I have loved for 14 years, suddenly died on Tuesday, 7 June 2005 at 8:45 AM. It's going to be difficult to get over the loss, but with the national Botball competition and finals looming on the horizon, I should have plenty to keep me busy. Expect updates on thoeretica to be sporadic, but they'll come in time. Good night, all!

Spring Break!
Spring Break is here, so I should have more time to work on the site. I plan to get an actual news system up, as well as a thumbnail gallery script and a comments system, but I've been meaning to do those for a while. Furthermore, I know that nobody reads this page, and that the front page has been almost static since we opened Thoeretica two months ago. I hope to have the front page dynamic and up to date by the end of vacation, but you never know what will happen. Well, I gotta go finish a Real Deal article before Biggs kills me.
- Ben [02:54 UTC on 16 April 2005]
Uploads and Beyond
Well, the upload script is finished and it has been working well for quite some time. The dump script has been finished and is in place, and a rough gallery script is up. So, what can you expect to see at Thoeretica.net in the near future? Well, we hope to have more article submissions soon, as well as a feedback system for files and other submissions. Also, I'd like to get a news script up so I don't have to type these all out by hand. With the level of automation that we have now, I'm surprised I haven't gotten around to it yet. Oh well, such is life.
- Ben [23:08 UTC on 7 April 2005]
News Skins and User Submissions
A lot has happened in the last month. First of all, we've opened up user submissions. If you are logged in, you can submit articles ("thoereticles") as well as other content. Both of these can be found in the Membrane. If you don't have an account, it's free and simple to register for one, using the Register link in the navigation bar. The Apux Hiostry File Dump is almost complete, and you can add items to it using the link in the Membrane section. For the forums, we've added two new skins, bringing the current number of forum skins to three. Go check them out! More backend code should be on the way soon, so look forward to it!
- Ben [00:17 UTC on 26 March 2005]
Introducing: "Heats"
A new layout stylesheet has been added for your site-wide viewing pleasure. You can easily switch between alternate layouts at the Settings page. User content submissions should be online shortly, but if you have anything that you would like to have published, just send it to one of the site admins.
- Ben [22:15 UTC on 27 February 2005]
Thoereticles and Publicity
The Thoereticles system is almost online, and Operation Publicity is well on its way. Other random things have been added, and the site is taking shape. I hate VHS.
- Mike [21:51 UTC on 23 February 2005]
Login System Ready
The user login system is now online, as well as member-only pages. We've hidden a few of them, so try to find them all! The new submission systems should be online as soon as possible. As for publicity...Mike has a great plan that he's been working on, and it promises to be quite intense.
- Ben [07:55 UTC on 22 February 2005]
Somewhat Dynamic
Dynamic slogans are up, and the finishing touches are being placed on the user login, submission, and page permissions systems. They should be online over the weekend.
- Ben [01:05 UTC on 16 February 2005]
Thoeretica is Online!
Well, the site is up and running on a database...well, I think it's up. Yep, it's up.
In other news, the back-end work is pretty much done and everything is easy enough to update at will, thanks to this new content management system I coded and Mike stylized. I don't care that it was designed for the band site; it was easy enough to add here, so it was added. I'm tired, it's late, and I'm going to bed.
